Hands on Central Texas
A volunteer matching program

As a program of United Way Capital Area, Hands On Central Texas is able to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities to over 10,000 people a year and provides more than 5,600 volunteer referrals to nonprofit organizations in Central Texas.

In addition to connecting people to volunteer opportunities, Hands On Central Texas runs a number of projects and programs aimed at sparking sustained, passionate community service. Among those initiatives are:

Volunteer Leader Training
You probably know the difference between handing someone a fish and teaching that someone how to fish. So does Hands On. Six times a year, Hands On Central Texas trains and equips groups of people to become “Volunteer Leaders,” who then plan and implement new and successful volunteer campaigns in our community. To put it simply, we’re training an army of do-gooders.

The United Way Resource Center
Toward the end of 2006, Hands On Central Texas opened the community’s first In-Kind Donation Center. The impact of the Resource Center is huge, even if the idea is simple: Hands On Central Texas takes in-kind donations from companies-office supplies, computers, diapers, toys-stores them, then matches them to nonprofits in need.

Days of Service
Imagine the power and excitement of having hundreds of local volunteers working on all kinds of volunteer projects in a single day. That’s exactly what happens During our Hands On Days of Service, hundreds of local volunteers works on all kinds of projects during a single day. The results are epic. Homes are built, hungry people are fed, children are mentored, trails and parks are restored, the elderly are remembered, and schools receive much needed help.

Hands On Central Texas knows that most people want to affect their community, to leave it a little better than they found it. So every day, they aim to provide new and creative ways to help people help.
